The healing power of the spirit of human connection is a remarkable one - to be able to look someone in the eye, to hold another's hand, and say, "I am with you" in your moment of need, in your moment of joy, in your moment of sorrow, in all moments. How simple it is to be "there" as the world spins and topples and takes its natural course, just long enough to shelter us from the flying rubble so that we can find our balance together and shake the dust off to take one step forward. Whether you can "fix it" for someone or remind them that they already have the tool kit, the reassurance of companionship and unconditional solidarity is more often than not just enough to reignite a flicker caught in the wind. I know no other way to a stranger's heart than through my own.
